GE15 Results: The Votes Are In! 31 Women Candidates Win Parliamentary Seats

In the recent #GE15, the number of women who managed to win parliamentary seats was unsatisfactory and disproportionate to the female population in Malaysia. Despite having an increase in the number of women contesting in the election, various factors such as political parties fielding women in difficult constituencies as well as pitting women against each other contributed to the low number of female representatives in the parliament. As we celebrate the newly appointed female MPs, Parliwomen certainly hopes that the newly elected government will take up the serious and long-term commitment to empower women in politics.
